Addressing Food Justice

Healthy Student Market at KIPP One

KIPP Chicago launched its newest food justice initiative—the Healthy Student Market at KIPP One, in collaboration with the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This market-style distribution program serves 70 families with fresh produce and shelf-stable items and has the capacity to expand based on community needs. The Healthy Student Market addresses food insecurity in the neighborhood we serve, where as many as one in four children across Cook County are at risk of hunger. By bringing these resources directly into our school, we’re improving access to healthy food options for families. This program represents a significant step in our ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity in our school communities, with plans to implement similar markets across all KIPP campuses.
