Last month our K-2 KIPPsters traveled through a journey of musical history in our first annual Black History Dance Concert. Students performed "Lift Every Voice", "We Shall Overcome", and recited an excerpt from a poem by Maya Angelou. In addition, each class performed a dance to a song written by a Black artist between 1910-2015. We started in 1910 with the song "Play the Barber Shop Chord," by Bert Williams, and closed in the current day with "Happy," by Pharrell Williams. The audience was guided through the decades with introductions about Black history in that period. Leading up to this concert, all KIPPsters were working on the dance skills of muscle memory and being able to move into different formations during their dances. Thanks to all the family members who came out to support their KIPPsters! We couldn't have done it without you.
